Highland Dance

HIGHLAND DANCE

As part of the curriculum for Lower School and an elective for Middle and Upper school, Highland Dance is a unique way for students to receive the benefits of superior physical exercise. It also promotes personal grace and precise muscle control, and develops a sense of rhythm and coordination between body and mind.

COMPETITIVE DANCE

Students also may elect to take after school dance instruction to prepare for competitions at the local, regional, national, and international levels. Competitive dancers typically participate at highland games in Salado, Houston, and Arlington. Our dancers also perform at the annual Dickens on the Strand, and for various elementary school and church groups in the Houston area.

STE has produced more than 23 U.S. champions. On seven separate occasions our dancers have finished in the top six at the World Championships held in Scotland, and in 1997 one of our accomplished dancers won the Juvenile World Championships.

SOUNDS OF SCOTLAND

With the only Scottish Arts program in all of Houston, it is only fitting that we showcase our students’ unparalleled talent on one of Houston’s most prestigious stages. Sounds of Scotland is an annual event typically held in March that features performances by our Highland dancers and Pipe Band.

PARENTS' DAY DANCE CELEBRATION

Held in May, our kindergarten through fourth grade students perform traditional Highland dances, while our “B” and “C” bands accompany the dancers.
