Participation Counts!

These days, participation is sometimes considered the very minimum and counts for very little. However, as an STE alumnus the concept of your participation means just the opposite. Your involvement in the school’s alumni events, admissions, marketing, and fundraising is vital and sets STE apart.

One of the most impactful ways you can participate is by giving to the Saint Thomas’ Fund (STF). By giving to the STF, you not only show pride for our school, but also demonstrate to the outside community that STE alumni are invested in the school.

The STF is the school’s only source of unrestricted dollars and it provides monies for STE students to compete at some of the highest levels in Mock Trial, the Junior Classical League, orchestra, Scottish Arts, soccer, swimming, cross county, and more. The STF also provides valuable funding for faculty training to ensure that STE students receive some of the best instruction in the state. This year we will also use the STF to send members of our theatre department to the prestigious Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland. In the 2017-2018 fiscal year, 10% of alumni gave to the school, with $69,072 going to the STF. This year the Alumni Board has set a goal of raising $75,000 for the STF and an increasing alumni participation rate up to 15%.

To achieve these goals, the Advancement Office is initiating March Mania, a concept based on the NCAA March Madness Tournament. During the month of March, we will kick off the Alumni STF Drive. Watch your mail and email for information on how to give to the STF during this time. The Advancement Office has preselected 32 graduating classes to create our inaugural tournament bracket. If your class did not make the bracket this year, do not be discouraged. Rather, we hope you will give to this year’s fund and encourage your classmates to give in the anticipation of inclusion in next year’s contest. Throughout the month of March you will receive periodic emails updating you on the tournament. The class with the highest participation rate will be recognized at the Through the Years alumni dinner on March 30, 2019.

We hope to see you at the reunion! In addition to naming the March Mania winners, we will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the graduation of STE’s class of 1969. We hope to see you there, and remember: your participation counts!
