STE Theatre

The moment a student steps onto the stage of the Murray Center, they feel that magic which can only come from performing in live theatre. From the fall musical, to the spring play, to the talent show, to the senior showcase, each student is given opportunities to shine — onstage and off.

Students can earn membership in the International Thespian Troupe by working over 100 hours in service to the theatre, and they can also become part of the Scottish Players, a newly formed, student-run drama club. Students also can learn to build and paint sets, as well as develop team-building skills, by attending weekend stage crew hours with our resident set designer, Dr. Bob.

In class, students learn from Lauren Pastorek, a former New York City theatre actress, who currently directs, choreographs, teaches voice, and performs across Houston — most recently with TUTS, the Houston Symphony, and Houston Grand Opera.

Class offerings are Upper School Theatre, and Middle School, 4th, and 5th grade Oral Presentation. Miss Pastorek challenges students with advanced acting techniques, Shakespeare, devising theatre, and script writing. Classes also spend plenty of time playing improvisation games and contributing to the productions with set painting and lighting design.

Recent productions were the full-length musicals Oliver! and Mary Poppins, and the hilariously funny play, Noises Off.
