Visual Art
Elective Art
This course offers a classical introduction to the basics of art. Drawing, designing, painting, and sculpting from "real life" gives each student a strong foundation. Students are encouraged to experiment with a variety of techniques, processes, and media in order to awaken imagination and creativity and to develop a well-rounded, self-confident artist.
Art history is blended with each project, spotlighting a master artist along with a contemporary artist, creating an impetus for the student to explore his environment and express himself visually with a distinctive individual style.
Prerequisite: None
Honors Art
This course, which is an extension of the middle school art classes, is designed for students who exhibit an interest in further developing their artistic voice as well as gaining a strong foundation in perceptual and design skills that may be applied in college level art, engineering, and computer science classes. Prior knowledge is extended through projects designed to engage each student's creativeness and demonstrate a direct relevance to his or her individuality.
Prerequisite: Instructor approval for 9th grade students
