Tutors and Study Buddies

Tutors

Senior tutors are high schoolers who assist any student who needs one-on-one instruction in a particular subject.  These students have been recommended by their teachers because they have proven to be good scholars in that particular subject.  Tutors must be dependable and able to work well in the role of instructor.  Most tutors are seniors who are at, or are near, AP level but may also be juniors or even the occasional outstanding sophomore.

Tutors typically meet with the student’s teacher for guidance about: how to best help, which areas need extra help, and any additional teaching materials.  Senior tutors are hired by the parent(s) of the student who needs assistance.  Parents are responsible for making their specific arrangements as to time, meeting place, and wages.

Study Buddies

Study buddies are high school students who assist younger students with their homework and organizational skills.  Study buddies meet after school to ensure that the students have all of the books and materials they will need for that night’s work.  Study buddies have been through the lower and/or middle school classes and, as such, are familiar with what is expected and what to ask their charges to keep them on the right track.
