Science Bowl
Participation in Science Bowl is open to any high school student who is interested in science. The team practices one evening a week from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on the day which is agreed upon by the participants.
STE has participated in regional science bowl competition since 2002. The St. Thomas’ team, under the direction of Belinda Stanley, is a known and respected competitor. STE teams, which have finished in the top four in three of the last four years, is the only private school to finish make it to the final rounds.
STE typically sends three teams to the competition. Held annually at the Texas A&M University, the meet typically includes more than 25 teams from between 10 and 15 individual high schools.
Following a round robin competition in which all the teams compete against three separate schools, the teams are seeded for the double-elimination portion of the meet. Each round consists of two 8-minute halves with questions from the subjects of astronomy, biology, chemistry, earth science, general science, math, and physics.
