Physical Education
Philosophy
Physical education is a critical component to a child’s overall education. STE sets high quality standards for its physical education program just as it does for academics. Instruction-based activities allow students to develop motor skills and understand fitness concepts.
Class Structure
All lower school physical education classes are divided into four sections: warm-up, fitness development, lesson-focused activities, and game activities. Each section is described briefly below:
-
Warm-up activities involve stretching and calisthenics.
-
Fitness development activities strengthen various areas of the body (e.g., arm-shoulder abdomen-trunk, etc.).
-
Lessons focus on developing individual physical skill units
-
Students finish by playing the games associated with specific skill units worked on that day.
