Mock Trial
Team Composition
Mock Trial is a student activity in which six to ten high school students form a team. One half of the team members play the roles of attorneys and the other half play witnesses in an imaginary court case. Cases alternate between criminal and civil cases annually.
Students try out for the team by preparing to either ask (if lawyer) or answer (if witness) questions from a prior year's case. Auditions are open to all students in the upper school.
Competition
Competition begins locally at the Regional tournament, which is typically held at the Court of Appeals. The regional winner advances to the State competition held in Dallas. The state champion advances to the National Championship which is held in different cities around the country each year.
Mock trial participants not only learn about the law and our judicial system but also develop life skills such as teamwork, case analysis, public speaking, quick thinking, and professionalism.
Accomplishments
The Mock Trial team has won the Southwest regional competition for 13 of the past 15 years.
The team won the state championship in 2004, the first non-public school ever to do so. The team finished tenth at the national championship and was one of four to be named Most Professional.
