Interact Club
Who We Are
InterAct is a service and social organization for young people, ages 14-18, that is guided and inspired by its sponsoring Rotary Club, yet each InterAct Club is a self-governing and self-supporting organization, providing members with the opportunity to develop a range of leadership skills, while learning the value of teamwork. InterAct stands for International Action. InterAct clubs exist in some 100 countries, with members volunteering their time in service projects to improve their community and the world.
The STE InterAct Club is sponsored by the Bellaire/Southwest Houston Rotary. Students are involved in many civic and church activities which benefit the community at large.
What We Do
The STE InterAct Club identifies service projects for our members that will provide us with the opportunity to serve others who can benefit from our actions. We identify service opportunities on our own, but also leverage the linkage to our sponsoring Rotary Club for ideas.
-
We are self-supporting; we raise the funding we need for our activities.
-
We identify at least one service project each month on which to focus our efforts.
-
We bring the spirit of teamwork and fellowship to everything we do.
-
We will hold meetings twice per month.
Service Projects
The STE Interact Club has participated in a variety of service projects in recent years which benefit the community at large, including: the Port of Houston's Christmas Boxes for Sailors project, Project H20, and Locks of Love, as well as food and clothing drives for the Star of Hope Mission. Our students also worked to help families affected by Hurricane Ike through days of service and other fundraisers.
Beyond efforts which were focused on needs in the Houston area, the club was instrumental in helping to bring a well for clean drinking water to the Concepcion Girls' School in Bolivia.
During the 2007-2008 school year, students participated in local pumpkin patches, beautification efforts, and one-day volunteer activities around the city.
In the 2008-2009 school year, students worked to raise awareness about safe water projects in sub-Saharan Africa and other developing countries through fundraisers and activities such as jerry can races.
