From the Headmaster

Welcome and thank you for visiting our website. I hope your virtual visit will give you a real sense of our school and community.

In 1955, The Reverend T. Robert Ingram founded St. Thomas’  Episcopal School with the guiding belief that an education that excluded God was no education at all. Since then, generations of families have given “STE” the sacred trust of educating their children in that classical, Christian tradition.

I am honored to lead a devoted faculty and staff as this school’s Headmaster. Having experienced the STE community as a student, alumnus, faculty member, and now parent and Headmaster, I believe the values expressed in our mission statement are needed more than ever in the lives of young people.

Thoughtful parents understand that in choosing a school they are looking not only for a place to academically educate their child, but an environment that reflects their values and provides moral guidance and examples in leadership - a home away from home.

Throughout our K-12 college preparatory program, our students encounter what Matthew Arnold, the famed British educational critic, called “the best of what has been thought and said.” Our lower school children learn the basics of each academic discipline, after which they grow in their use of higher-ordered thinking skills as their learning deepens and intensifies.

While our curriculum is challenging throughout, and at times demanding, our teachers are always available to help students and give them every opportunity for success inside the classroom.  Outside the classroom, our many extra-curricular activities and sports provide ample opportunities for personal development and growth.

Our graduates thrive at the best colleges and universities in the country.  Many of them begin their college years as sophomores, sometimes even juniors due to the impressive number of Advanced Placement exams we offer.  Graduates frequently report that the self-discipline and habits of mind they developed at St. Thomas’ made the transition to higher education rewarding and stress free, and that they were well prepared for their studies beyond STE.

I invite you to visit our campus to learn more about our unique school and its proud traditions. You will discover a vibrant, joyful community of students, teachers, and parents working together to give their children the best of what a Christian education has to offer – growth “in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men."
