Developing Critical Thinking Skills

Saint Thomas’ Episcopal middle school curriculum builds on principles of personal responsibility and citizenship as introduced during a child’s lower school years. Our middle school serves as a safe place during a critical time in the development of a child’s personal identity. Students enhance their abilities in time management, independent versus team-based collaboration and connected thinking throughout their academic day. Logistically, students have different teachers by subject for the first time, and teachers facilitate this adjustment to different teaching styles throughout the day. Students select their own electives from a broad range of possibilities, including dance, foreign languages, and oral performance. Various clubs and class trips supplement the traditional education offered at St. Thomas’, catering to student creativity and class bonding.
