Tutors and Study Buddies

Tutors

Senior tutors are high schoolers who assist any student who is in need of one-on-one instruction in a particular subject.  They have been recommended by their teachers because they have proven to be good scholars in that particular subject.  They must be dependable and able to work well in the role of instructor.  Most are 12th graders who are at, or are near, AP level but may also include 11th graders or even the occasional outstanding 10th grader.  They usually meet with the student’s teacher for guidance as how to best help, what areas need extra help, and for any additional teaching materials.  Senior tutors are hired by the parent(s) of the student who needs assistance.  They are responsible for making their own arrangements as to time, meeting place and wages.

Study Buddies

Study Buddies are high school students who assist younger students with their homework and organizational skills.  They meet after school to check that the students have all of the books and materials they will need for that night’s work.  Study Buddies have been through the lower and/or middle school classes and, as such, are familiar with what is expected and what to ask their charges to keep them on the right track.
