Promotion through the bands is strictly based on the achievement of certain goals pertaining to memorization, level of musical fluency, technical proficiency, and in the case of pipers, ability to play the bagpipe. The following describes the requirements for playing in each band.

C Band Requirements
Pipers	Drummers
1. Memorize 4 tunes and get pipes.	1. Be able to play exercises and tune settings from Book I up to the required tempos without errors.
2. Be able to play band repertoire through the Bonnie Galloway Set from memory on the pipes without errors.

B Band Requirements
Pipers	Drummers
1. Be able to play band repertoire through the B Band Medley and MSR from memory on the pipes without errors.	1. Be able to play band repertoire through the B Band Medley and MSR from memory without errors.
2. Be able to play pipes keeping steady pressure while playing and produce a decent tone.

A Band Requirements
Pipers	Drummers
1. Be able to play entire band repertoire, including A Band competition music from memory with no errors.	1. Be able to play entire band repertoire, including A Band competition music from memory without errors.
2. Be able to play pipes keeping steady pressure while playing and produce an excellent tone.	2. Demonstrate mastery on the drum all rudiments
3. Demonstrate master on the pipes all bagpipe fingering movements.
4. Be able to play on the beat with good musical expression.
